about

The ‘Magicicada’ insect remains underground for 17 years, feeding and going through several juvenile stages. In the spring of the 17th year, the nymphs build exit tunnels, and generally emerge during the month of May to reproduce. The nymphs live no longer than 3 months.

16 years after the release of Ogres of the South Wall's first record ‘The Troll In All Men’ comes ‘Cicada - The Lost Album’. Originally written between 2009-2012, ‘Cicada’ was the ambitious follow up project - a sprawling concept double album that pushed into new musical territory for the band. ‘Cicada’ was a labour of love, sadly stalling under the weight of personal expectations, a record perhaps too ambitious for the DIY musicians to complete at that point in their lives. Today, the album is presented in its most complete format. Pieces vary in completion, but the entire intended song cycle is present in the 15 tracks.

‘Cicada - The Lost Album’ tells a metaphorical story based on the life cycle of the 17 year Cicada. A young male emerges from darkness into a dizzying and overwhelming world. Instincts tell him to find a mate. The album tells a tragic story that could be interpreted as a misguided self-delusion, or a cold society rejecting the warm hand of youth.
